The Jeep Wrangler is the two- and four-door off-roader built around a ladder frame, solid front and rear axles, and a roof and doors that come off. For 2027 it is offered with a turbocharged four-cylinder, a V6 or a 6.4-liter V8, and a lineup that runs from the basic Sport to the Rubicon X and the 470-hp 392 models. It suits buyers who want real trail hardware straight from the dealer and care more about capability and personality than a plush highway ride.
The Northeast take
A Wrangler is a Northeast classic for good reason: solid axles, real four-wheel drive and clearance that handles Vermont dirt roads in mud season. It starts at $36,635 for the Sport, with 9.7 to 12.9 inches of ground clearance and water fording of 30 to 34 inches. The two-door is short at 166.8 inches with a 32.7-foot turning diameter, ideal for tight streets, while the four-door is 188.4 inches and turns in 38.8 feet. The cost is highway comfort and fuel: the 2.0-liter turbo is rated 20/23/21 mpg. Winter comfort takes planning. The Convenience Group, $1,595 on Sport S and Willys, includes remote start, and the Sarge Package, $3,285 on the Rubicon, adds heated front seats. Salt also bites exposed hardware, so rinse the underbody.
The Wrangler is built to go fully open. Jeep says the Sport's doors lift off on quick-release hinges with no tools, and it calls the available Sky One-Touch power top class-exclusive, with push-button open-air driving that does not require leaving the cabin. Freedom hardtops and soft tops come on other trims.
Command-Trac and the part-time Rock-Trac are simple, strong setups for drivers who want a mechanical feel. Selec-Trac and the full-time Rock-Trac add an automatic mode that is useful on slick pavement and snow. Rubicon models use Rock-Trac's 4.0:1 low range with locking axles, and Jeep claims crawl ratios up to 100:1 when properly equipped.
The 2.0-liter turbo four makes 270 hp and returns the best fuel economy of the three. The 3.6-liter V6 makes 285 hp and is the only way to get a manual transmission. At the top, the 6.4-liter V8 puts out 470 hp and 470 lb-ft and is standard on the four-door Willys 392 and Moab 392.
A four-door Rubicon with the LT315 tire package reaches 12.9 inches of ground clearance, a 47.4-degree approach angle and a 40.4-degree departure angle. The two-door's 32.4-degree breakover angle is the best of any Wrangler, and water fording tops out at 34 inches.
Every trim carries a 12.3-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay support and Android Auto compatibility, which Jeep calls largest in its class. Sport, Sport S and Willys add a 7-inch digital gauge cluster this year. Rubicon X and Moab 392 include an integrated TrailCam off-road camera, and so does Sahara for 2027.

It is capable, with a trade-off in comfort. Four-wheel drive and clearance make it excellent on snowy back roads, and the soft top or removable hardtop is a personal choice. Expect more road noise and a stiffer ride than a crossover, and the four-door's 38.8-foot turning circle is workable. Heated seats and remote start are optional, so choose the trim with them.
The two-door is the city pick: 166.8 inches long and a 32.7-foot turning diameter, versus 188.4 inches and 38.8 feet for the four-door. It also tows only 2,000 pounds, against up to 5,000 on a four-door Rubicon with the right gear. If you carry rear passengers or gear every week, the four-door is the more livable choice.
The most a 2027 Wrangler is rated to tow is 5,000 pounds, and only a four-door Rubicon with the automatic transmission, 4.10 axle ratio and LT285 tires qualifies. Most other four-doors are rated at 3,500 pounds, and the 3.6-liter two-door is rated at 2,000 pounds.

No. Jeep's 2027 Wrangler lineup is gas-only, with the turbo four, V6 and V8, and the 2027 build-and-price tool offers no plug-in hybrid. The 4xe belonged to earlier model years, so shoppers who want one should look at pre-owned or leftover listings.
The Wrangler Sport starts at $36,635 as a two-door and $39,985 as a four-door, before the destination charge, based on Jeep's pricing in November 2026. Rubicon X starts at $57,030 for the two-door and $61,230 for the four-door, the Willys 392 starts at $70,995 and the Moab 392 at $79,995.
Sahara is the more road-oriented four-door, with a standard turbo four, premium audio and a long list of comfort and driver-assist features. Rubicon is built for the trail, with Rock-Trac 4x4 and 4.0:1 low range, locking front and rear differentials, an electronic sway-bar disconnect and 33-inch-class tires.
Not especially, because of its boxy shape and off-road gearing. The turbo four is the most efficient at an EPA-rated 20/23 mpg city/highway, the V6 is rated 17/22 to 17/23, and the V8 returns 13/16.
